The Climeworks Team
Christoph Gebald
Founder & Director
Christoph Gebald holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering with distinction from ETH Zurich. Within his graduate studies at ETH and the University of California Berkeley, he studied heat and mass transfer and the thermodynamics of chemical engineering. He has more than 3 years experience in CO2 capture from air. Moreover, Christoph gathered business experience as an executive board member of ETH juniors. At Climeworks Christoph is leading the joint product development project together with ETH Zurich and Empa.
Jan Wurzbacher
Founder & Director
Jan Wurzbacher holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering with distinction from ETH Zurich. During his Master studies at ETH and the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, he focused on energy and control systems and solar thermal cycles. He has 2 years experience in CO2 capture processes and gathered industrial experiences in an R&D position at Schindler Elevators AG. At Climeworks Jan is responsible for prototype development and together with Christoph for the management of the company.
Dominique Kronenberg
COO
Dominique Kronenberg studied mechanical engineering at ETH Zurich focused on fluid dynamics and renewable energy technologies. During his studies he worked as a member of the executive board and later as president and CEO of ETH juniors. Dominique gathered international business experience in various internships where he was employed as a project manager in the industrial and financial sector. Within Climeworks Dominique is responsible for business development, financing, market analysis as well as marketing and sales.
Dr. Nic Piatkowski
Project Engineer from ETH Zürich (www.pre.ethz.ch)
Nic Piatkowski received his BSc with honors in mechanical engineering from the University of Toronto and earned his MSc and PhD from ETH Zürich specializing in high temperature solar thermo-chemical fuel production. During his studies, he developed structural and electrical systems for solar race vehicles and gained experience in instrumentation R&D with Honeywell Aerospace. Within the joint product development project of Climeworks and ETH Zurich, Nic is responsible for the design, build and testing of prototype CO2 capture facilities.
Dr. Maria Maluszynska-Hoffman
Chief Chemist
Maria Maluszynska-Hoffman received her MSc with honors in chemistry from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland and her PhD in bioorganic chemistry from the RWTH Aachen University in Germany. Her research experience was enriched by several internships in the Netherlands, USA and Spain. She continued her professional carrier working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Zurich. Within our team, Maria is responsible for the development of the sorbent material for the Climeworks CO2 capture system.
Tobias Rüesch
Product Developer
Tobias Rüesch holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from ETH Zurich. During his studies he focused on wind energy and energy conversion processes in turbo machines. In his master thesis he developed and built a new system for upstream wind measurements on wind turbines. Tobias gathered working experience during his internship with MAN Diesel & Turbo and at a Swiss leading private bank. Within Climeworks, Tobias is responsible for product development and prototyping.
